Doors & openings

How to use it

Choose feet, metres or yards for lengths and square feet, square metres or square yards (gaj) for area. Select a 20×30 or 30×40 ft plot preset, or enter custom dimensions. Add a drawing room for receiving guests, a living room or family hall for everyday use, bedrooms, a kitchen, dining space, bathrooms, stairs, parking or a puja / prayer room. Select a room to change its label and dimensions. Drag it to reposition, or drag the blue corner to resize. Choose the road-facing direction and add doors or windows to a selected room. The planner now detects shared room boundaries and creates a gap in the wall wherever an opening fits correctly. Adjust its wall side, width and position beneath the canvas. Nearby room edges can snap together while you move or resize them. To position a room precisely on mobile, tap it on the drawing and use the arrow controls immediately underneath the canvas. You can also enter exact coordinates in Room details. Use two fingers to pinch-zoom on the plan, or the zoom buttons. Pan mode lets you swipe around an enlarged plan. Advanced freehand wall drawing is no longer offered in the normal interface. Existing projects containing custom walls can still access their saved wall editing controls.

Keep and share your sketch

Download a free A4 PDF with a small HouseFolio footer, or export a PNG/SVG image without added PDF footer. Keep an editable JSON project to reopen the drawing later or on another device. Browser saving is local to your device and can be lost if site data is cleared.

Important: This editor produces a conceptual room-layout sketch, not a construction drawing. Room-based shared boundaries and symbolic door/window gaps are shown for planning only. Optional advanced teal wall sketches are independent guides and do not change room areas or placement checks. It does not check physical access between rooms, setbacks, services or Vastu, building regulations or local approvals. Have any proposed plan reviewed by a qualified architect or engineer before building.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2D floor plan maker free?

Yes. The current tool works in your browser without creating an account, and A4 PDF, PNG, SVG and editable project exports are free.

What is gaj, and which measurement should I choose?

In many Indian property listings, gaj means a square yard of plot area. One square yard equals 9 square feet. Other options include cent (435.6 sq ft), guntha (1,089 sq ft) and decimal/dismil (435.6 sq ft). Choose yards for lengths if you prefer, and square yards (gaj) for area. Changing display units does not change the plan's actual size.

Can I show which direction my road faces?

Yes. You can mark the road as north, east, south or west facing, with the road consistently shown at the top of the drawing. This changes the compass annotation, not your plot's physical dimensions.

Can I work with an older custom-wall draft?

Yes. If you previously saved a project containing custom wall sketches, you can still access its wall controls. For new projects, we recommend the easier room-based editor and precise movement arrows.

Can I use it for a 30×40 Indian plot?

Yes. There is a 30×40 preset and a basic example layout. You can also choose 20×30, 30×50 and 40×60 ft plots, or enter custom dimensions.

Will the drawing meet building rules or Vastu requirements?

No. The planner highlights room overlaps, plot boundaries, openings that cross wall junctions and rooms without a detected door route to an exterior boundary. These checks are advisory; they cannot prove a layout is safe, accessible or structurally feasible. Structural design, municipal rules, setbacks and Vastu are outside this release.
